By 2020, we plan to be a Zero Landfill waste organization, to improve our energy efficiency by 30%, and to reduce our carbon impact by 50%.
Our long-time dedication to Lean Six Sigma has brought about a mindset that sees any kind of waste within our operations as a signal that we used unnecessary natural resources, time, energy, and expense. A full-scale recycling program for paper, plastics, wood, cardboard, compostables, and computer waste is a standard part of our work practice, and we also work with upstream suppliers to reduce packaging waste.
Our machines use non-hazardous canola oil as coolants and lubricants. This canola oil is then run through an in-house filtration and reuse system. As a result, we’ve reduced hazardous waste from these processes down to near zero.
We are responsible for a global portfolio of Hypertherm facilities and our occupancy strategy includes a vertical integration of R&D, testing and reliability laboratories, manufacturing, assembly and support services.
Web-based, real-time electricity monitoring capabilities, closely watched metrics anchored around kilowatt hours (KWH) used, and engaged manufacturing, engineering, and facilities teams have led to dramatic reduction in our electricity usage.

In 2013, we became an EPA Green Power Partner and additionally qualified for the Green Power Leadership Club, one of only six companies nationwide at that time within the “Industrial Goods and Services” sector. In 2015, we were awarded the EPA Green Power Leadership award in the Green Power Purchase category, one of only eleven organizations nationwide to receive this award. Our Low Impact Commuting Benefits incentivize our Associates to reduce their own carbon impacts and their costs.
The National Wildlife Federation has certified our main facilities in Hanover and Lebanon, New Hampshire as Wildlife Habitats.
In 2016, Hypertherm was awarded the EPA Environmental Merit Award. The award, presented annually, recognizes outstanding environmental advocates in the New England region for making significant contributions toward preserving and protecting our natural resources, and ensuring New England remains a vibrant community with clean air, land, and water.
