Research has shown that the earlier a child is exposed to STEM activities, the more excited they are to learn about problem solving and critical thinking. Early exposure also increases the likelihood of that child envisioning themselves as a scientist, engineer, software developer, or similar. For this reason, our efforts include programs to expose elementary and middle school aged children to different STEM careers, and the greater job growth inherent with those careers. In doing so, our hope is that we can help them make a more informed decision when it comes time to choose their future academic and career path. In addition, while we want all children to have the opportunity to engage in STEM, we are aware that women are an under-represented minority in STEM fields, particularly engineering. As such, we are very supportive of programs that connect these younger children with our talented team of female engineers here at Hypertherm Associates.

Highlights
A group of students entered a “what is so cool about manufacturing” video contest and chose Hypertherm Associates as the manufacturing business they wanted to highlight. They came and toured with their iPads before heading back into the classroom to make a video.
