Special Olympics
Hypertherm Associates' support of the Special Olympics' Upper Valley Fall Games stretches back to 2004. Since then, our Associates have donated hundreds of hours – planning and assisting at events such as cross country running, volleyball, bowling, and equestrian competitions. In recent years bowling has become the primary Upper Valley event, and our Hypertherm Associates continue to plan and run the event annually.
The mission of Special Olympics New Hampshire is to provide year-round sports training and athletic competition in a variety of Olympic-type sports for children and adults with intellectual disabilities, giving them continuing opportunities to develop physical fitness, demonstrate courage, experience joy and participate in a sharing of gifts, skills and friendship with their families, other Special Olympics athletes, and the community.

Why Special Olympics?
In 2004 Special Olympics New Hampshire approached Hypertherm and asked if we would take on the management of Upper Valley fall events. While it seemed daunting to take this on in a volunteer capacity, our Associates were up to the challenge. Over the years, the team perfected the model, demonstrating a commitment to the Special Olympics even as the events changed, and Associate volunteers cycled through. Our events start with opening ceremonies and breakfast; we then pivot to the athletic competition and wrap up with a celebration and awards ceremony.
As the Special Olympics oath reads:
Let me win, but if I cannot win, let me be brave in the attempt.
Our volunteers witness true grit as Special Olympic athletes give their best effort and cheer each other on in the spirit of true appreciation for each other and the day's spirit.
The HOPE Foundation has provided financial support for more than two decades. Traditionally, grants were focused on event operating expenses but have pivoted to supporting the expansion of unified sports and Inclusive school districts in the Upper Valley.
Thank you to all the Hypertherm Associates on the Special Olympics planning team. An extra special "thank you" to the Associate volunteers who are lane keepers and cheerleaders; your spirit makes this event very special for the athletes and their families.
